Replacing Missing Teeth
Dentist calls it: Giving you your smile back
If you do lose a tooth, don’t worry, we can replace it for you.
There are a few ways to do this.
- Dental Implants
- Bridges
- Removeable dentures
Dental Implants
The ideal way to replace a missing tooth is by placing a dental implant. An implant is a screw that goes into the bone and replaces the root of your tooth (the bit under your gum you can’t see). We can then place a crown on top (the bit you do see in your mouth.)
The process can take several months, requires some minor surgery, but replace your tooth without needing to harm any other tooth.
Benefits of Dental Implants
It replaces a tooth without damaging the adjacent teeth
It can offer excellent aesthetics
Long lasting results
Bridges
What is a dental bridge? Think about a bridge across water – it uses support from the land either side of the river to build a passage from end to end. We use the same concept in your mouth. We use the teeth adjacent to the gap to hold a new tooth in place. This can involve cutting down the adjacent teeth, but provides a reliable and well tested way to replace a tooth without the need for any surgery.
Benefits of Bridges
It can offer excellent aesthetics
Long lasting results
Risks of Bridges
It may require filing down the adjacent teeth
It is only suitable if your adjacent teeth are strong
Dentures
A denture is a removable appliance, that you remove at night. It can replace one or multiple teeth in one go. It requires no surgery, and is often the most cost effective approach to replacing missing teeth.
